Backpacking Inspiration - 6 Weeks South East Asia - Bangkok to Singapore Overland

One of the most favorite destinations for independent travellers and backpackers, South East Asia has astonishing Buddhist temples, dense jungles, bustling markets, exquisite cuisine and exotic culture. As one of the most affordable regions of the world in which to trip independently, you can expect expected value for money and the trip of a lifetime. Here is a sample itinerary for colse to 6 weeks backpacking Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.

Fly into Bangkok. As the start of many South East Asian adventures, Bangkok is the greatest in exotic and excitement. It's busy, polluted, noisy and intense. The culture shock may be bewildering but the touch will be unforgettable.

From Bangkok head south by train to Surat Thani, then catch a speedboat to Koh Samui. Spend a week or two on the idyllic beaches eating Tom Yum Soup and drinking Chang Beer.

Khao Sok National Park: Southern Thailand contains an area of jungle faultless with monkeys, elephants, and cool lodges. Stay and enjoy the trekking for a day or two.

Phuket, Ko Phi Phi and Krabi: stray slowly down the Andaman Coast. If you fancy it you can go sea kayaking, go diving, or hire a motorbike and examine the beaches independently.

Take a bus or train south and into Malaysia. This border crossing is no hassle. Once in Malaysia head to Penang where you can swap your phrasebook and catch up on a few big city comforts.

Kuala-Lumpur: Less intense than Bangkok, Kl is an easy place to relax. There's plenty to see in Kl for a incorporate of days including the Petronas Towers and the historic colonial architecture.

Singapore: It's developed, westernised, comfortable, clean and expensive. Singapore is an international hub where you can spend a few days looking the sights and enjoying the food before flying home or onto your next destination.

Assuming you trip independently as a backpacker, this 6 week trip is likely to cost in the region of 00 -00.

Cambodia Secrets of Sihanoukville?

One of the worst held secrets is the rapid emergence of Sihanoukville Cambodia as a major Asian beach resort town. Many that have been here in the past would smugly say I told you so, as to all it was facilely apparent that this quiet limited coastal beach town had all the makings for a long time now. All that is needed is more flights into the now open Sihanoukville airport; as soon as there is a direct flight from Bangkok; watch out this place is going to blow!

Three things make Sihanoukville especially curious and you should take every chance to see Sihanoukville now before it becomes overrun, which it will in the very near future.

A 5 Star luxury Hotel Under 0

Sokha Beach Resort is a 5 star luxury beach resort that has it own long inexpressive beach, a pool the size of a small lake, a staff to guest ratio of 4 to 1, and all the other amenities that you would expect from a 5 star luxury beach resort for under a 0 a night! This price I can assure will not last for long. If your funds is under 0 a night there are lots of other Sihanoukville hotels and guesthouses ready near the ocean with more being built at a furious rate.

The Sihanoukville Islands

The islands have always been the real inexpressive there are not many places in the world where you can go to and have this many large undeveloped islands. This will be the area that in the next ten years will see a large growth spurt similar to what happened on Koa Sumui, Koh Phangan and now Koh Chang which incidentally is the closest islands group in Thailand to the Cambodia Thai border. It makes sense that Koh Rung Samleom and Koh Rung will see major things in the next 3 to 5 years and the Koh Tang groups do to its isolation, charm and excellent scuba diving and water sports, will be the real Shangri la in the future.

Real money, make that Riel money.

The Cambodian cheaper is based on the Us Dollar. What this means for you is ridiculously lower prices compared to a lot of other tourist destinations in South East Asia. Thailand being an excellent example as the Baht continues to get stronger despite a troops junta running the country, and a major Muslim uprising in the southern three provinces, that has seen over 2500 killed in just a few years of on going guerrilla warfare. One of the reasons stated for the Junta to take power was to try to get that situation under control which from the news reports that do conduct to come out of the region that they are no added along to a solution than they were a year ago.

The increased value of Korean, Malaysian, Singapore, Japanese and Chinese money against the Us dollar make Cambodia even cheaper for the regional tourists with Koreans being the fastest growing sector of the tourism market. And the Asian tourists like a lot of things on offer in Sihanoukville including legal gambling and an fullness of very cheap seafood.

You know, I should also mention that despite what the biggest guide book says, it has a lot of literally nice beaches to chill on.

Do you feel shock, panic, anger, anxiety and disappointment from recent lay-offs, firings or re-orgs?

Are you stressed and overwhelmed from too much work?

Are you feeling isolated and lonely from lack of family or friends?

Are you experiencing boredom, apathy and listlessness from lack of purpose?

Do you feel trapped and helpless from financial debt, toxic relationships or condition issues?

Are you feeling a sense of grief, sadness and depression from a separation, separation or death of a loved one?

Would you like to get some instant relief from your emotional distress and get to your happy, centered place quickly?

The quick fixes outlined below are what I use to furnish me with relief when the emotional pain is so intense it prevents me from reasoning clearly. I am always able to return to my happy centered place quickly. Just by releasing the negative emotions, it clears my mind. This allows my creativity to kick in and I would find the clarification to the question or the clarification will gift itself. Just by the straightforward fact of changing my actions, it changes my energy and as a result, I attracted a separate outcome and it has always been for the better. This often leads to a chain reaction of good things - directing me down a path I would never have concept of exploring. This has happened so many times that when I run into obstacles now, there is always a miniature part of me that goes "Ooh, I wonder what great adventure is colse to the corner?".

So, the first thing you need to do to overcome your obstacle is to publish all these negative emotions and find your happy centered place. Even though you may not feel like doing any of these quick-fixes, you need to override those feelings and force yourself to take action. It's only in taking operation that you can change your results. Apply "Mya" - Move Your Ass. There were times I did not feel like getting out of the house or even out of bed - but by using any of the quick-fixes on myself; I will always feel a thousand times better.

Although the quick-fixes below are based colse to my passions and interests - you will apply these normal ideas colse to your own passions and interests and establish your own 10 quick-fixes to help you find your happy centered place quickly. If you do not have any passions or interests, then by trying these quick-fixes, you will find your own passions or interest. Do not limit yourself to what is just on my list, brain-storm and come up with your own ideas. Please use the worksheet at the end (Appendix A) to write your own Quick-fixes.

Start now - 10 Quick-fixes

These are not in any order - you can do any combinations of these some times a day or at minimum, once a day. Continue this daily and vary the activities so that it does not come to be a disposition and you won't get bored.

1. Playing good music loudly

• This just makes me want to freestyle dance, always brings a smile to my face and leaves me feeling carefree and light. Disco and Abba is great for me. Also samba. Whatever with a great African based rhythm. I stay away from death metal - that gives me a headache. I also like classical music - it's peaceful and lyrical and puts me in a calm, serene state.

• Choose songs that immediately make you smile, move or calms you down. Pandora.com is a free radio middle point on the internet - enter one of your beloved songs and it will find you songs of a similar type. Make some compilations: happy dance songs, peaceful calming songs etc.

• If music is not your thing, move on to the next action.

2. Do your beloved exercises that make you sweat and your heart pumping for at least 20 mins to 1 hr. The leading part is the sweating and the heart pumping. The natural endorphins your body releases will make you feel better. If you have a friend who is positive, practice with them but don't discuss the problem. You just need to publish the negative energy. I suggest doing these at least 2-3 times per week. I practice daily.

• I go out dancing - salsa, hustle, ballroom, argentine tango, swing, freestyle, hip-hop, samba, belly-dancing. I always feel happy, excited and centered after dancing hard. The more stressed I am, the later I stay out dancing. In my corporate years, I would dance every night until 2-4am. I may be tired the next day, but I find I am in a great mood and when handling conflict, it brings about a great effect when I am not emotionally attached to the problem. The other side benefits are that dancing has kept me wholesome and fit and my dance technique has improved from all that practice. Now, I am a ballroom dance coach.

• Other examples - horse-back riding, wind-surfing, surfing, running, walking briskly, cycling, kick-boxing, spinning, skiing, snow-boarding, aerobics, swimming, racquetball, water-polo, swimming etc.

• If you do not have practice in your life, you need to get started now. Not only will it help you with your current situation, the long term benefits to your condition and reasoning well-being is enormous. If you continue to practice ordinarily at least 2-3 times per week, this will help you in your path to enduring happiness and health.

3. Take a class in your area of passion or interest - studying will take your mind temporarily away from your problems, and get you out of your routine.

• I love to learn so it puts me in a good mood. It has also solved many of my problems. I take business, marketing, sales, leadership, personal development, dance or art lessons. In the past, I've taken golfing, skiing, drumming, piano, surfing, wind-surfing, framing, yoga, pilates lessons. If you are on miniature funds, there are fullness of free webinars/teleconferences on the internet. The other alternative is to learn from a book, Cd or Dvd which you can borrow from your local library. My personal library is filled with books on leadership, business, marketing, sales, success, personal development, framing, art, dance and biographies of absorbing people.

• I signed up for Ballroom educator training to help cut the conflict in the middle of my boyfriend and me when I was teaching him ballroom. My teachers hired me to teach their beginner Ballroom classes after my first semester and I graduated top of my class 16 months later. Now, I transform lives straight through coaching, ballroom dancing and art!

• If you have insecurities about learning, don't do this yet. Build up your trust first.

4. Teach man else your expertise/passion/interest

• I cannot tell you the estimate of times my students have truly fallen straight through my door with gasps of "You cannot believe the day/week/month I've had" and left relaxed with a smile on their faces after 2 hours of painting. Or they leave rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world after one my of group or incommunicable dance lessons. In the case of first time beginners, the joy I see on their faces and the light in their eyes when they study they can do something that they never concept they could. It is transformational for them. Or when clients call up overwhelmed and distraught and I am able to get them calm, happy, optimistic and armed with an operation plan. Even when I'm having a rough day, helping my students and clients and receiving these unavoidable emotions back always lifts me up and energizes me.

• Even if you do not think you can teach, you should give it a try. I used to be afraid to ask questions in class and could not speak publicly until the age of 20. I suggest starting in a 1:1 situation if this is new to you. You can start with a family member or friend. man who is supportive and cares about you and needs your help. Then you can work your way to smaller groups. Who knows, this may lead to your next career. Working in the computer commerce and in startups forced me speak ordinarily to large and small groups of citizen all over Asia Pacific, Europe and Us. My art and dance technique has improved tremendously straight through teaching. Worst case, you are just going to get great in your area of expertise/passion/interest.

5. Read an inspirational book, an inspirational blog or watch an inspirational movie or biography show on Tv.

• I like reading autobiographies and biographies of real citizen and how they have risen above their circumstances or adversities. Some citizen find this depressing, I find it motivational. It's like - "Well, if they can get over this, so can I". Some of my beloved books are:

"Wild Swans: The three daughters of China" by Jung Chang,

"Such a long journey" by Rohinton Mistry,

"Stolen Lives" by Malika Oufkir and Michele Fitoussi,

"Daughter of Destiny - an autobiography" by Benazir Bhutto,

"The autobiography of Quincy Jones" by Quincy Jones,

"Jack: straight from the Gut" by Jack Welch and John A Byrne

"The Power of One" by Bryce Courtenay - don't see the movie, read the book. Even though it's fiction, I truly identified with the lonely miniature boy. And so many other books I could not bring with me as I've moved colse to so much.

• I loved the movie "Seabiscuit"... I am "Seabiscuit" - I didn't fit in, was once a cripple, do not look like everyone else and was imaginable to fail. The biography movies and shows on Tv profiling flourishing company people, musicians, artists, athletes and world leaders have been eye-opening and absorbing - Warren Buffet, Oprah, Bill Gates, Sting, Jon Bon Jovi, Shania Twain, Jim Carrey, Christina Aguilera, Gandhi, Malcolm X, Ray Charles, Mohammed Ali, Tina Turner, Olga Korbut, Oksana Baiul etc.

• I bought "The Millionaire Maker" book by Loral Langemeier to help solve my boyfriend's problem; I ended up reading the book and signing up for their coaching services. My coaches recognized my vast personal feel in the arena of life transformations, my skills in teaching others and led me to my life purpose as a coach!

• Your local library is a great free resource for books and some movies. Netflix.com is great for easy favorable way to movies. I buy my books from Amazon.com - there is a used section if you have miniature funds.

6. Call up or visit a friend

• Friends who have more problems than you - make him/her feel better.

I have a few friends in this type - I don't tell them about what I'm going through. I just focus on them, make them laugh or tell them what a great mother/father/son/daughter/grandparent they are and how if they were my parents or siblings or grandparents, I would be so lucky. Then I tour to tell them about how they are special. If they are in the midst of a crisis, I see what I can do to help. It's surprising how swiftly you can gain perspective on your problems when man else you care about is facing life or death situations.

• Friends who are wise happy souls who can put things in perspective.

My friends, students, staff, clients confide in me when they are having problems - I'm their wise happy soul. It makes me feel good and adds to my happiness when I'm able to bring a smile to their face or furnish some relief for their emotional pain. I ordinarily ask them in the big project of things, if they were to die tomorrow, how leading is this pain/adversity compared to all the amazing things they have going on in their lives?

I have one close friend who I call when I'm in the middle of a connection emergency and she can reflect back and summarize my jumbled thoughts into something cohesive which I can take operation on.

As I have always helped others, I didn't get a lot of help myself until I signed up for my first coaching agenda which has been life changing.

• Avoid calling friends who will just keep you in that negative loop. They enjoy hearing your tales of misery and have more tales of misery for you to confirm how much your life sucks. And even more evidence that the world is a cruel place so you may as well just slit your throat and end it now. Ok I'm exaggerating but you know what I'm talking about. These citizen do not offer solutions - they just like to wallow in doom and gloom.

• If you do not have friends, this will need to be in your long term strategy for happiness and prosperity. You can volunteer at non-profits to help others less fortunate and hire a coach as your wise happy friend.

7. Go to a peaceful place - do this in your mind or in reality

• I'm not good at meditating but this technique works for me. I am lucky to live in a peaceful place so I can just sit in my yard, look at the canyons and do these breathing exercises - I drop my head down to my chest and I breathe in deeply and when exhaling, I am imagining that I am pushing out the negative emotions that are causing the clutching in my chest or that knot in my stomach. I keep doing this until the intense feelings are reduced. Then I replace it with thoughts of good things like how lucky I am to have a home, to have my health, to have good citizen in my life, to have a sound mind etc. This is an adaptation of Larry Crane's publish technique. I discovered this in my 40s and it truly made a difference. I got rid of a growth by doing this - when I went in for the procedure, the ob-gyn looked at me in shock and said it was gone! There were many other obstacles that just worked themselves out when I concentrated on releasing the negative emotions colse to those problems. For example: I hate driving and used to drive up to 3-5 hours round-trip at times for business. By releasing on these emotions, straight through an amazing series of events, the studio owner of a local ballroom studio offered me a teaching position at his studio, just 13 minutes from my home (this is close for Los Angeles area).

I do a modified breathing practice with my art students - they truly like it as it immediately disengages their mind from their problems and relaxes them. Some of my students have to battle Los Angeles traffic (always horrendous) to get to my art classes so they arrive rather stressed and rattled. I first start by getting them to take a deep breath - most of them jump up from their chairs at this point and stretch their arms up in the air while they are breathing in. Then when they breathe out, I encourage them to shake, rotate or stretch out their tense muscles, ordinarily in their heads, necks, shoulders, arms, etc. Then we take someone else deep breath and when breathing out, I instruct them to push out the negative thoughts and anxieties that are inside their heads, or the clutching in their chest or stomach. Then on the final deep breath, I thank them for being there with me, I remind them how they are all gorgeous citizen and how lucky we are to be painting with each other.

• Drive out to the ocean and listen to the surf - that always centers me, brings a feeling of calmness and makes me feel strong and remarkable again. When my connection was falling apart, when my uncle passed away, when I was burned out - just a few hours by the ocean got me going again.

• Go for a walk in nature. Try to get away from cars, technology and people. I find that very healing.

• If you have funds, get a massage. If only the leaders of the world would ordinarily get good massages. Maybe there will be less fighting and more love. I only discovered this when I was in my late 30s - boy did that help me with my stress.

• If you love animals, getting a pet can help you. Just stroking your cat or dog is very calming and peaceful.

8. Create something

• I ordinarily paint - I get out my watercolors and start playing colse to with the colors. After a while, some inspiration will come and this process of creation always makes me feel better.

• Or I cook - it's even great when I can cook and feed man else. The sounds of man appreciating my cooking always make me smile. Don't do this if you have weight issues - you will just get more depressed.

• When I injured my knee and could not walk upstairs, I started sewing as that operation complex sitting in one place or cutting from the floor. I taught myself how to sew and made ball-gowns to hide my bent leg when I was dancing. Yes, I still went dancing even though I spent most of the time sitting down. It distracted me from my painful knee and now I have 10+ new outfits to wear dancing!

• Start a journal - write down 3 good things that happened to you today. Do this every day. It can be as straightforward as a friend calling you on the phone. Or the sun advent out. Those are good things. Or write down all things you are feeling every day. It does not have to make sense, just dump it out. Who knows, this may lead to your next occupation - writing. That's how I started writing. I have lots of miniature unfinished stories scattered colse to in my computer and in some journals. All produced while times of great stress, anxiety, grief or shock.

• If you have never done Whatever creative before but have a normal interest, go with that. If you do not know how to get started, buy a how-to book or signup for a class in wood carving, pottery, art, glass-blowing, cooking, writing, piano, violin, bass, dance etc. That's how I got started in painting - I woke up one day with this strong obligation to paint with the Chinese brush in 2001. I went on the internet and found a Chinese brush painting class in San Francisco and on that Saturday painted for the first time. Boy did that change my life forever!

9. Express love and gratitude to your loved ones. If you have a spouse, children, family or friends who love you - reach out to them and tell them how much you love them and how much they mean to you. Give them a hug or a kiss.

• I don't have family but I write emails to my close friends at odd times. It's ordinarily too late to call. I will tell them I'm reasoning of them and hope they are doing well. I thank them for their friendship, and tell them how extra they are. When you tell citizen they are special, it means more to them if you spell out what it is they are good at or recognize a exact event which highlights their talents eg: great listeners, patient, creative question solvers, great sense of humor etc.

• I tell my boyfriend all the time how much I love him, what his specials talents are. I reach out and ask for a hug when I need it. That always makes me feel better.

10. Take a trip to somewhere completely opposite to what you are going straight through - if you were burned by people, then go to a third world country like Brazil or Cuba where there are still happy citizen who care about each other even though they are truly poor. If you are advent out of a completely frazzled situation - go somewhere remote and peaceful without a lot of citizen - the more unknown the better.

• When I left Oracle for a startup which went bankrupt 6 months later, those 6 months were so intense it left me drained, numb and tired of bad people.

Instead of doing what I would ordinarily do in that situation - update my resume and job search, I flew out to Cancun, met with a dance friend and exploring pyramids, wells, caves and gorgeous beaches. We found a miniature place in Tulum, 2 hours south of Cancun and stayed in a miniature hut on the beach. There was no electricity; the floor of the hut was sand. It cost almost nothing. That was on of the most rejuvenating times for me. We then flew to Miami for the largest Salsa festival in the Us - Calle Ocho and danced our butt off for 1 week with 2 other dance friends. I came back to San Francisco with a tan, lost about 10 pounds, a smile on my face and found a voice-mail from the President of a new startup absorbing me in for an interview. He hired me on the spot as Director of Marketing. How cool was that!

• There was a time when I was truly burned out from dealing with unethical citizen and citizen who took advantage of my kind helpful nature. I began to lose my faith in the human race. I found myself in a deep depression, not wanting to eat, not able to sleep, not wanting to interact with anyone. I signed up for a dance agenda to Cuba and the 2 weeks there was life changing. Cuba was just advent out of their famine and the citizen there were so poor - food was hard to come by, even if you had money, there was nothing to buy in the stores. But I have never happier citizen in my life. They were filled with joy, laughter and love. Their fullness spilled out to all of us -foreigners - all broken in our many ways. What was clear to me then was because there was no money or material things to buy, their time was not spent in race of money. Their time was spent with each other, laughing, singing, dancing, talking, hugging, playing music or doing other things together. There are no lonely citizen in Cuba. When I was with our group of local Cuban dancers, if I wandered off on my own, they would always call out, "Come walk with us, don't walk alone". Their children are their national treasure - children can meander anywhere and they are held, loved, taken care of and fed by their neighbors and total strangers. man will always bring the kids home to their parents at the end of the day. How amazing is that?

• Other places I've been to which are great for recovering your spirits - Koh Chang in Thailand, Pulau Langkawi or Pulau Tioman in Malaysia, Morro de Sao Paolo in Brazil. These places are all inexpensive, remote and peaceful. I had an ocean-front beach hut for /night in Thailand and daily massages for /hr. I stay away from the hectic high-priced resorts. I only went to hectic high-priced resorts when it was funded by my work. When I'm funding it, then it could also be high-priced resorts but peaceful ones - like the Kea Lani in Maui and the Grand Wailea in Maui (only for the imaginable spa - the rest of the resort is too chaotic).

Not all of these are long term strategies for enduring happiness but they will help get you out of your state of shock, despair, numbness, depression, paralysis, anxiety or disappointment etc. The publish of the negative emotions that are tying you up in knots will allow your objectivity and creativity to kick in. Often, the obstacle/adversity is not going to be as insurmountable as it first appears and the clarification will gift itself once your head is clear. Just by the straightforward fact of taking some action, you be changing your results... You are no longer beating up on yourself or repeated request your mind for a clarification when it clearly does not have enough data to make a decision. Changing your actions, bypasses your current negative thoughts and feelings and that changes the result. The change in your energy will allow you to attract a separate result. And often one good thing will lead to someone else to another.

Why Thailand?

There are obviously any number of reasons why population pick to visit and maybe decree in Thailand. These reasons could be something very simple: the desire to retire on a petite allocation with entrance to cheap housing and very low living costs. The reasons could also be on a higher plane: the diverse Thai culture, the exotic cuisine, the tropical climate, the kindly people, enchanting beaches, or the vibrant nightlife.

There a few places in our world where you can find what Thailand offers. A pleasant climate, appetizing food, kindly people, enchanting landscape and very affordable living costs.

Starting with the main considerations for living or retiring in a foreign country, let us survey what Thailand offers.

Access to affordable housing with costs well below what you would need to pay for comparable housing in any western country. Obviously, a luxurious apartment in Bangkok is vastly more high-priced than a comfortable and spacious house located somewhere along a sun drenched, tropical beach. Access to exquisite international schools teaching the U.S. Or British curriculum. These schools are high-priced but there are hidden schools that teach the Thai curriculum with heavy emphasis on the English language and these are very affordable. Access to university education. Many local universities have an transfer program with overseas universities whereby a learner can faultless 50% of the study program in Thailand and then faultless the remainder in another country like the U.S., Britain or Australia. Excellent hidden condition care. The hidden hospitals in Thailand offer a proper of aid that you can only dream about in other western countries. Rehabilitation for minor remedies is cheap, whereas major operations can be very expensive. A hidden condition assurance face major items is very desirable. The exposure to Thai culture, history and the Buddhist way of life. Thai history goes back a long way and remnants of different Kingdoms, like Sukothai and Ayudhya, prompt exploration and a challenge to survey their origins. In the northeast, there are the remnants of many antique Khmer temples and population in some areas still speak the Khmer language. The exposure to the exotic and aromatic Thai cuisine together with the collection of tropical fruits. If in doubt, you could, however, buy food from McDonalds, Kfc or Pizza Hut, drink coffee at StarBucks and visit any number of restaurants that serve international food. In fact, very few countries offer such a collection of international food outlets as Thailand.

For those who are more attracted to the corporal side of life, here's what you will find here:

Swimming and sun bathing at sunny tropical beaches, with a selection of crowded tourist beaches or totally deserted beaches. The most beloved destinations are the southern islands around Phuket, Koh Chang on the eastern seaboard, and Koh Samui. The selection of a wide collection of water sports. These contain scuba diving, water skiing, deep sea fishing, jet skiing and para sailing. Year round golf with a wide selection of high capability golf courses. The area around Pattaya offers the cheapest golfing with a selection of 24 courses. The opening for exotic sightseeing enchanting destinations contain Kanchanaburi, Chang Mai, the northern area around the "Golden Triangle", the southern islands, Koh Chang and many others. We should, of course, not forget Bangkok itself.

So, I can hear you say, what are the negatives? There are a few and there is a need to weigh them against the more generally known attractions.

The language. The Thai language is difficult to learn and there is no doubt the foreigners who cannot speak Thai have to live their lives "on the fringe" of Thai society. For many, this is not a big problem. While most visitors praise the friendliness and hospitality of the Thai people, there are fundamental attitudes that are more complex. Thai population are proud and very protective of what is Thai and what belongs to the Thai people. Never start an consulation with a Thai person because you will simply cause resentment. The Thai considers it impolite to show resentment or anger towards another person. The legal principles does not favor foreigners. Thai courts will obviously deliver just and unbiased decisions but complications or disputes will seldom go this far. Disputes are more likely to be resolved without entrance to legalities. This goes from easy situations like traffic accidents. Here, affect and position often dictate outcomes.

These are observations from living in Thailand for 15 years and only reflect a personal view.

The economic situation in Europe and America is not legitimately good. Because of it, more and more people think about retiring and relaxing in some tropical countries in Asia. One of the most beloved countries for such people is Thailand. Many retired people move to Thailand, buy a house here and enjoy their lives after the years of hard work.

There are many reasons why people rule to move to Thailand and live here. One of them is the attractiveness of the country. If you want to move to Thailand and buy a house here, a house in Rayong by the beautiful, quiet and serene beach might be just what you need. Things to Do in New England

New England is one of the most gorgeous regions of the country. I have been there many times, mainly with my family. My parents used to rent a house up at Cape Cod every summer, where my sister and I would stay with them. I have also been to Boston many times. Some other fun places to visit in New England are the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard as well as Acadia National Park in Maine.

Cape Cod is beautiful, especially in the fall when all the trees change color. I have never been there in the fall but I've been there many times in the summer with my family, when it's also quite pleasant. The cape runs about 30 miles north along the Atlantic coast and has some nice beaches. Provincetown is right on the tip of the cape. This is a fun town with lots of hip youngsters and some fun shops.

Boston is one of my popular cities in the United States. I have been on the relaxation Trail twice, which passes by some prominent structure pertaining to the American Revolution, including Fanneuil Hall, an old market, as well as the North Church, where Paul Revere began his famed ride. Fanneuil Hall contains Durgin Park, one of my popular restaurants, with superb prime rib as well as some exquisite clam chowder.

A trip to New England would not be complete without visiting Maine. I was in Maine with my family for a week and ate lobster every day. Lobster is so cheap in Maine that you see hamburger stands which also sell lobster. Acadia National Park is a gorgeous spot in Maine, well worth the trip up there.

The Dream, Reality and Problems of the Expat Living in Spain's Costa Blanca

This article is the first in a series about the dream, reality and unfortunately nightmare of the expat living in Spain's Costa Blanca. This first part deals with whom, why and how habitancy end up falling for the dream of living in the sun and how it can be the best decision ever made by some people.

There is a time in most people's life when they sit back and think that there must be something great in life. Some habitancy have an affair, some habitancy opt for plastic surgery or a fancy sports car and some habitancy pack it all in, in search of a great life abroad.

Statistics from the office of national statistics show that of the 300,000 citizens that leave the Uk each year half head for Australia and New Zealand, 42,000 head for France and the Usa/Canada and a weighty 58,000 still head for the sunny shores of Spain, all in search of a life changing chance for the better. The anticipation of a new home, new culture, new job, new language and new house prove all too irresistible for thousand of people, couples and families each and every year.

With the proliferation of tv programmes catering for every whim of the expat lifestyle and dedicated channels on satellite television, of policy the anticipation of buying a dream villa set in fragrant almond groves with mountain view to the back, a pristine white washed hamlet on one side and amiable locals to the other whiling to spend long lazy days drinking sangria and the azure Mediterranean glistening in the distance. A cooling swimming pool (designed to your own specification of course) sits by your side as you fondly remember the drudgery of life back in the fast lane.

For some habitancy this dream has turned into reality. One of my clients made the move some 4 years ago and have not had a particular regret. Ignoring for the moment the change in the interest rates which have seriously affected the quality of many abroad to continue living la Vida loca.

They one sunny afternoon in 2004 whilst in London visiting friends decided to go along to the ideal home exhibition or the day. Whilst perusing the many stands they came across trade stand with a mock villa with a very reasonable price tag.... The seed had been planted. Over the next few months they proceeded to send off for brochures, purchased magazines, viewed websites and did the research anything inspecting manufacture a move abroad would do. One evening whilst watching Tv an advert caught their attention.

"Thinking of inviting to Spain????? Our experts are flying into the Uk this weekend for a extra exhibition at Jubilee suites at Chester racecourse!" With nothing to lose they jumped in the car and trundled off down the road for some no enforcement perusing.

Several hours later, they had booked themselves on a "Free Inspection Tour" or should I say the Spanish asset experts had. They would be enjoying a 5 day 4 night luxury break in Spain's Costa Blanca, staying in a 4 star hotel, all meals and accommodation would be paid for, their flight were subsidised so cost no more than £50 each, all they would have to pay for was drinks.

They would be given an unabridged area tour on their first day to find the areas that they liked as it was more important to get the location right than the property. The subsequent days would be spent looking for the asset in the areas that they previously deemed suitable, what happened after that was anyone's guess. So back in late 2004 off they left a cold wet and windy Britain and jetted into a balmy Alicante. With the climatic characteristic still in the mid 20's the scene had already been set.

They were met at the airport by their uniformed guide called Peter who with a amiable greeting took them out to their liveried car and drove them on the coast road down to their hotel. There was no mention of purchasing asset and Pete chatted to them about how he came to be living out in Spain. They were later to learn that all things Pete said was virtually pre-determined by the powers that be, and the soft sell that they were experiencing was all part of a cleverly executed series of steps know as the seven steps.

Introduction - tell client about yourself (sell yourself). Company - Build trust in the firm (sell the company). Area - perfect a 300 km area tour (sell the area & lifestyle). Product - find the asset in their budget within area (sell the house). Finance - arrange finance (sell the mortgage/loan). Contract - perfect sales contract. Consolidation - be nice to them, don't give them any intuit to cancel.

Now there is nothing wrong with sales, after all all things is sold to some degree or other, but this was a non stop 5 day 4 night sales pitch that was clever due to its subtlety. I will cover the ins and outs, good and bad of the sales process in a time to come very inviting and revealing article.

Peter the rep was very contend and knowledgeable and had lived in Spain for a few years. It was confident that he was trying to steer them into confident areas and styles of houses but they stuck to their guns and in the end found a gorgeous site on the outskirts of a picturesque hamlet nestled in the mountains some 30 km from the coast. It was an off plan improvement and they had a option of house styles, plots and house orientations within the plot.

The formalities of applying for Nie numbers, appointing legal representation, signing contracts and paying the obligatory Eur3000 asset reservation fee were all completed with little or no fuss whilst still out in Spain.

Some five days after embarking on their information obtaining, non obligation, Free inspection visit they have committed to spending some Eur350,000 on a property, selling their asset in the Uk (not even for sale yet), selling their car, retiring.

You would be amazed at the whole of habitancy who undoubtedly purchase on these trips. During the peak in the early to mid 2000's the inspection trip companies incredible their reps to sell to at least 40-50% of their clients. Many of these clients like my parents were on information conferrence exercises with undoubtedly no intention of purchasing and some had never even been abroad before.

In my clients case it proved to be the best move that they could have possibly made with very few snags along the line. They sold their asset in the Uk at the correct time. They purchased from a reputable builder on a good site in a great area and importantly they are surrounded by great neighbours. They have integrated into the local community and are learning the language.

The above is an example of inviting to Spain or anywhere else abroad for the right reason. Many do not. In my line of work snagging properties for clients I come across a wide collection of habitancy and their reasons for manufacture the move. The key I feel to manufacture the move a long, happy and successful one is to come because you want to and not because you have to.

In my next article I will find some of the practices of the free inspection tour companies and show you what to look out for and where you can save yourself a few pennies.

Should I Barter For all I Want in Thailand?

While it is common, and even expected, to negotiate prices for homes or cars, most of those in the Western world would never dream of doing so in a store or with a vendor. The price is marked on a price tag, so that is what we pay. It would be rude to haggle, not to mention futile. In Thailand, as in most of Asia, bartering is the norm, and in fact, it is rude not to barter. For those unfamiliar with this tradition, how do you know when to barter and when to pay the asking price? How do you ensure you are paying the allowable price that is fair to both you and the vendor?

Just as you can be view rude or uncouth for failing to barter with vendors, so too can you be view arrogant or cheap if you barter at the wrong time. Many in the Middle East and, to a lesser extent, Asia believe that there is nothing on Earth for which you cannot barter. In terms of cultural faux pas, though, you want to stay away from bartering in group stores, malls, grocery stores, or for scheduled buses or ferries. If you are dining at a bistro by yourself or with a small party, you will not want to barter.

There are a few exceptions, however. If you are eating with a large party, you may negotiate the rates before you eat. If you do it after, you will be looked upon as very cheap or unknowledgeable. You may sometimes barter the price for high mark items in a group store, such as jewelry, or when you are buying an item in bulk. You may also offer to pay cash for a discount. Some stores will take off five to ten percent if you use cash instead of a prestige card, but this is far from universal.

Before you hit the streets of Thailand, brush up on your bartering skills. While there are some intricacies you should know, in general, you want to be very pleasant. Never raise your voice, and treat bartering like a game. It can be intimidating for the uninitiated, but it helps to know that this is largely meant to be an enjoyable experience for seller and buyer. Start in Thai, saying, "Sawadee krap/ka, nee tao rai na krap/ka?" or "Hello. How much is this?"

Don't take it too seriously, play along, and above all, all the time pay a fair price for goods. Vendors will often take off ten to twenty-five percent of their asking price straight through the bargaining process; unless it is a very expensive item, don't haggle too much more than that. Remember that as a tourist, you have considerably more money than the vendor.
